Shipping Questions

My tracking says my order has been delivered, but I have not received it. What should I do?

DON'T PANIC - your order is likely still on its way but is taking longer than usual to arrive. The package may still be on the delivery truck or mailroom, despite being marked "delivered". Wait a day or two before getting concerned about package loss. Here are some steps you can take in the meantime to locate your package:

1. Confirm the shipping address for your order. Is it correct?

2. Look around your residence thoroughly and ask anyone else who lives at your address if they received the package.

3. Ask your neighbors if the package was delivered to them by accident.

4. Check with your local post office or delivery person. We typically send packages via USPS. USPS should have GPS info on all scanned delivered packages. Contact your local post office and ask them to confirm the actual delivery address based on the GPS when the package was scanned.

5. If all the above steps fail to turn up the package, then the issue may be related to stolen mail. We recommend you initiate a lost package claim with the mail carrier you selected.

When will my order ship?

All belts are made to order. Allow up to 3 business days for us to make your belts prior to shipping. Orders are fulfilled 8 am - 12 pm Monday through Friday. Orders placed after 12 pm on Friday will not be eligible for shipping until the following Monday at the earliest.

You will receive an automated email confirmation with tracking information once your order has shipped. Shipping times vary depending on the carrier and service you select at checkout.

How long will it take to get my order?

We make every belt to order. Allow up to 3 business days lead time for us to handcraft your belts before shipping.

Please note: We have no control over shipping carriers, their operations, or world events that may affect delivery times. Expect delays during the holiday season.

Can I expedite my order?

Unfortunately, we are unable to expedite belts because every item is handmade to order. You have the option to upgrade your shipping option, but this only reduces the shipping times. Items are shipped up to 3 business days after your order has been placed. Shipping options are available in your cart during checkout.

Can I change my shipping address after my order has been placed?

If you need to make changes to your shipping information, please contact us with your order number and a detailed request as soon as possible. If your order has not shipped, we will do our very best to accommodate your request. We cannot make changes to your order after it has shipped.

We are not responsible for orders shipped to an incorrect address entered by the customer. Please double-check your shipping address when you place your order. 

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship internationally with USPS, UPS, or DHL. For more information about our international shipping, visit our Shipping Info page.

All orders shipped outside the United States are considered Final Sale and are ineligible for return or exchange.

How do I exchange or return my belt?

What do you not accept for return?

The following are not eligible for return or exchange:

  • Items that show clear evidence of wear and/or are not returned in a sellable condition
  • Items sold as "FINAL SALE"
  • Custom sizes and custom orders
  • Discontinued items
  • Gift Cards
  • Items that were purchased more than 30 days ago
  • Items purchased at an in-person event, during a sale, and/or with a coupon code
  • Items that do not have a receipt or other proof of purchase

Can I ship an item as a "gift"?

No, all items we ship internationally are marked as "merchandise" on the customs declaration form to comply with import laws.

However, you can request that we add a gift message in the space provided for Order Notes at checkout. We will include a handwritten note with your message. Write something nice like:

This is a gift for my son. Please include a note that says - "Happy Birthday, Timmy! Love, Mom."

Do you sell gift cards?

Can I visit your showroom or store to get a belt faster?

No. We do not have a showroom or store, just our workshop, which is not open to the public. If you are looking for a quick gift, we recommend purchasing a gift card.

Leather and Belt Sizing Questions

How do I figure out my belt size?

Check out our belt size guide to help you find the right size.

The best way to get the right size belt is to measure your waist with a tape measure. While wearing your favorite outfit, wrap a tape measure around where you want to wear the belt (e.g. through the loops of your jeans or over your sweater). If your measurement falls in the middle of one of the ranges listed, order that belt size. If not, order a custom size and enter your measurement during checkout. We will make a belt to fit that size, with a couple of inches adjustment bigger and smaller.

A simple rule of thumb is to add two to your US men’s jean size (e.g. if you wear a size 32 in jeans, order a size 34 belt). Recently, we have noticed an uptick in the number of jeans brands that use stretchy fabrics that distort true jean size. For that reason, we encourage everyone to use their actual body measurements when choosing their belt size.

How do I order a custom size?

Put on your favorite pair of jeans, then take a tape measure and wrap it around you where you would normally wear the belt. Select “Custom size” when ordering your belt. Enter your measurement at checkout in the Order Notes section. Write something descriptive like, “I measured my waist and it is 37 inches.” We will make a belt to fit that size, with a couple inches of room bigger and smaller.

What size belts do you make?

We can usually make belt sizes up to size 48 or size 50 in our standard leather colors (black, brown, and distressed grey). If you need a custom size shorter or longer belt, please contact us before placing your order so we can check our inventory. Limited edition leather colors are only available up to size 42 unless otherwise stated.

I have a belt that fits perfect. Can you make me an Obscure Belt the same length?

What kind of leather do you use?

We exclusively use full-grain leather for all our belts. Our leather is tanned less than 50 miles from our workshop by specialty tannery Seidel Tanning Corporation.

How do I take care of my leather belt?

We recommend regular care and maintenance of your belt to ensure its long-term durability and longevity. Check out our Leather Care 101 page for tips on caring for your Obscure Belt.

Will leather dye rub off on my clothes?

All our belts are made in small batches using vegetable-tanned full-grain leather. This natural process means that some dye transfer can occur if the leather gets wet (i.e., heavy rain, excessive sweat, wearing the belt swimming, a trip through the washing machine, etc).

While we stand behind the quality of our belts, leather is a natural product and we can't predict how it will react to other environments once it leaves our workshop. We recommend only using our belts for their intended purpose and are not responsible for any damage caused by external factors.

What are Imperfect Belts?

Imperfect Belts are products with small cosmetic flaws. We have very high standards when it comes to our belts. Imperfect items are handmade with the same quality leather and buckles as our other products.

They are fully functional, high-quality leather belts at a great price that will hold your pants up for years, but they will not be aesthetically perfect out of the box. These products may be scratched, wrinkled, an older model, or the leather may be softer or have more color variation than we typically allow. We are quite picky, so you might not even notice the flaws!

How many holes are on each belt?

We provide six holes on each belt strap. If you need more holes, please order a "custom size", enter your measurements, and let us know in the Order Notes section at check out how many extra holes you need.

How far apart do you space the holes on the belt?

The six belt holes are spaced 1" on center. If you need additional holes punched, please order a "custom size", enter your measurements, and let us know in the Order Notes section at check out how many extra holes you need in the belt.

Will your belts fit through my belt loops?

We use a standard 1.5" wide belt strap for all our casual belts. This width belt is the best type of belt for jeans because it fits through most belt loops.

Which of your belts are good for jeans?

Do you make women's belts?

All our belts are unisex and look great on anyone! However, our Ohm belts have a more feminine flair and look particularly good with dresses or as hip belts.

Belt Buckles

Can I buy just the buckle?

No, we do not sell the buckles by themselves. Our buckles have a unique way of attaching and do not work with other belts.

Can I buy one belt and multiple leather straps to switch them out weekly?

Yes, it is possible, but we do not recommend it. We did not design the buckles to be interchangeable or switched often. You do so at your own risk. You can order leather belt strap replacement kits here.

Can you make me a custom buckle design?

No, we cannot accommodate custom requests at this time and for the foreseeable future.

I would like a buckle design that you do not have on your website. How can I get this?

If a design is no longer available on our website that means it is sold out. We create our buckle designs in small batches ans only make a limited number of each design. Once a buckle sells out, it's likely gone for good.

The good news is we're always working on new designs! Sign up for our newsletter in the footer to be notified when a new buckle launches.

Are your buckles interchangeable?

No, we did not design the buckles to be interchangeable and discourage switching the leather often. You do so at your own risk. You can order leather belt strap replacement kits here.

Warranty & Repairs

What is your limited lifetime warranty?

We take pride in the quality and durability of our goods, which is why we offer a Limited Lifetime Warranty for qualifying Obscure Belts products purchased from our website, www.obscurebelts.com. Proof of purchase is required to receive a qualifying warranty repair.

The Limited Lifetime Warranty applies to our buckles for up to 4 years.

The Limited Lifetime Warranty refers to the length of time, through normal use, an Obscure Belts buckle will function for its intended purpose, not the lifetime of the customer.

How can I get a new screw or sizing piece?

You can order replacement screws and replacement sizing studs for current designs. Be sure to select the correct buckle design and finish from the drop down as parts vary for each buckle.

Please note: If your buckle is more than four years old we may no longer have replacement parts for it.

Something is not working on my belt. How do I submit a warranty repair?

We offer repairs on most current Obscure Belts buckle designs purchased within the last 4 years. Please visit our Warranty page for more information. It may be that you just need a replacement part.

Repairs are intended to return your Obscure buckle’s mechanism to working order. We do not offer repairs for normal wear and tear, buckle finish restoration, or leather restoration.

I lost a bunch of weight. Can my belt be shortened?

If you would like to have us shorten your belt, please contact us with how much shorter you need the belt. The resizing is free, but we ask that you cover all shipping costs. Be sure to consult our sizing charts and measure your waist to determine your new size.

Please note: Ohm and Excalibur belts cannot be shortened. You will need to purchase a leather belt strap replacement kit.

Can you repair a buckle I bought somewhere else?

No, we do not repair buckles made by other companies. We only repair buckles made by us that fall under our warranty.

We occasionally offer Imperfect Belts at a steep discount. These slightly flawed products function the same as our standard leather belts and are a great way to try out our products at an affordable price.

Can multiple coupon codes be combined?

No, coupons cannot be combined. We only allow one coupon or discount code per order.

I have a question about using Installments with Afterpay.

What is Installments with Afterpay?

Installments with Afterpay is a service that allows you to make purchases now and pay for them in four payments made every 2 weeks without any interest.

How do I use Installments with Afterpay?

Simply shop online and add items to your shopping bag and checkout as normal. At the checkout choose Installments with Afterpay as your payment method. First-time customers will need to register with Afterpay and provide payment details, as usual, returning customers simply log in to make their purchase. It’s that easy!

Please note that all items in your shopping bag must be eligible for Installments with Afterpay. A minimum purchase amount may apply and you must meet additional eligibility requirements to qualify.

Where can I use Installments with Afterpay?

Installments with Afterpay can only be applied to purchases made on the obscurebelts.com website.

Can I use Installments with Afterpay if I’m an international customer?

Afterpay is only offered to our customers who have a US billing address, US shipping address, a US Visa or Mastercard (credit or debit card), or American Express and a US mobile phone number. Customers with international billing addresses, shipping addresses, and/or phone numbers will not be able to set up an account with Afterpay.

How does the payment schedule work?

All customers are required to make their first payment at the time of purchase, with the remaining three payments deducted every two weeks from your chosen payment method. If you choose to make additional payments before your scheduled pay dates, you may do so through your Afterpay account.

You can log in to your Afterpay account to view your payment schedule and make a payment before the due date if you choose to do so.

What if I can’t pay an Afterpay installment?

What happens if I have a partial refund, and how does that affect my payments?

Afterpay will be notified once your refund is processed. Your payment plan will be automatically adjusted to reflect the new total order value starting with the last payment and working backward. Note that the length of payments will never go beyond six weeks after the purchase date. In the case where a refund amount is larger than 25% of the total order, Afterpay will eliminate the fourth installment payment and charge the remaining amount to your third payment.

I have a question about paying in installments on Shop Pay.

What is the option to pay in installments on Shop Pay?

When checking out with Shop Pay, you now have the option to pay now or later. Paying in installments on Shop Pay allows you to split your purchase amount into four equal, biweekly installment payments with 0% APR, or monthly installments with no hidden or late fees*.

Which payment methods are accepted if I use the option to pay Installments on Shop Pay?

The installments option on Shop Pay is available on debit and credit cards.

Can I use Shop Pay Installments if I'm an international customer?

Shop Pay Installments is only available to customers with a United States billing address and phone number. Customers with international billing addresses and phone numbers can't use Shop Pay Installments.

Is there a limit to how much I can spend on a single Shop Pay Installments order?

Yes, 17,500 USD is the order value limit that applies to purchases using Shop Pay Installments, including discounts, shipping, and taxes.

Can I buy gift cards with Shop Pay Installments?

You can't purchase gift cards using Shop Pay Installments. If you want to purchase gift cards along with Shop Pay Installments eligible products, then you need to place two separate orders.

Are there late fees?

No, there are no late fees if you miss a scheduled payment.

What if I miss an installment payment?

There are no late fees for customers who miss a scheduled payment. However, partial payments or late payments might impact your credit score, or your eligibility to use Shop Pay Installments in the future. If you have questions about a missed installment payment, then you can contact Affirm support for assistance.

What if I make a return on a purchase made through Installments with Shop Pay?

After your refund is processed, the refund amount will appear on your payment schedule within 3-10 business days, and your balance will be updated.

If your refund is less than your total purchase balance, then it might not lower your next payment. Instead, you can expect fewer payments, a smaller final payment, or both.

If your refund is more than your purchase balance, then the difference is returned to your original payment method within 3-10 business days.

If your order is made with monthly payments, then the paid interest isn't refunded. Interest is the cost of borrowing, and isn't refundable.
